Basic Appearance: Mitsuo is about 5'5, and weighs 104lbs. He's very gangly, and looks slightly frail. It's not enough to make him look sickly, but enough to make him look weaker than he actually is. His hair worn short, and is light blonde, while his eyes are a greenish blue. His skin, like his hair, is also pale, and occasionally this makes him look rather washed out (Which he hates.). Some students studying under various sage types tend to dress rather stuffily, but Mitsuo has a laid back-ness about his appearance that many of the New Parm residents share. He prefers loose clothing such as tunics and shirts, and loose fitting jeans or pants, tucked into lace up boots. He prefers to wear a wraparound cape that is somewhat festive in design (Think Meis of Thousand Arms), but he occasionally wears an oversized jacket during the colder months or heavy duty adventuring. When traveling or meeting important people in the stead of his teacher, he'll wear more presentable clothes such as a really nice shirt or slacks, but he doesn't go overboard. As long as he looks fine and isn't looked down upon, everything's cool by him. Besides, really starched shirts give him a rash. ^^; One thing Mitsuo carries with him no matter what while going out is a small sigil attached to a leather rope. It's a purple stone with a strange inlaid gold design in its center. These sigils are actually signs that the scholar/sage types use in order to tell people just exactly who they are, and that this is their student. Each town has a specific color and design. It saves Mitsuo from a bit of red tape. Because these situations come up more often than not, he prefers to carry it with him at all times. And to top off the look, he carries a backpack that has all of his possessions.
Mitsuo is pitifully nearsighted and must wear glasses at all times. Any time he has a klutz attack and looses his glasses it usually leads into a stereotypical 'haha look at the blind guy stumble around' moment where he usually bumps into someone, accidentally gropes at some place he shouldn't, or just plain gets into a situation that's either painful or embarrassing. Suffice to say, he tries very, very hard not to lose his glasses. Finally, Mitsuo has a moderate case of asthma, which may partially contribute to his frail looking state. While it's never been life threatening (yet), after extreme physical exertion there are times when he pants to catch his breath. Usually he's able to regain control of his breathing on his own, but he does have an incredibly disgusting medicine (think of a really archaic inhaler) that usually does the trick. He resents taking it because he wants to appear as normal as possible, and sometimes he needs to be pushed by other people to use it. Also occasionally, he can get tired a little quicker than the average person on really long travels or excursions, but his attitude is usually upbeat and so far this hasn't had an adverse effect on his health (Which is a good thing, because even if it did, he wouldn't slow down any).
Personality: Mitsuo is generally an upbeat kind of guy. He can be a little shy and reserved when he meets people he doesn't know, but over time he usually warms up and becomes very pleasant and optimistic, although he's down to earth at the same time (In other words...he's not overly hyper). Mitsuo generally has confidence in himself and what he does. He knows that he's a bit nerdy and weaker than the average guy, but he tries very hard not to let it phase him. He does have two weaknesses: very important types such as royalty and nobles, and girls that he likes. He becomes very shy and stuttery, and quite accident-prone around these two types of people. Mitsuo is very, very intelligent. He enjoys learning just about everything, from reading to exploring ruins with his eccentric grandfather. Everything, from history to math excites him. He even enjoys the arts. He even knows how to play the fiddle. (It must be a New Parm thing...)
One thing Mitsuo hates is when someone tells him he won't or can't do something. It's not necessarily a spoiled reaction, for more often than not it has something to do with his health. Mitsuo wants to be treated just like everyone else, so he'll adamantly deny that anything is wrong. This unfortunately has made him quite stubborn, but thankfully, he's slow to anger overall.
Background: Mitsuo lives in a modest one-story house near the docks of New Parm with his mother and grandfather. The mother, like Mitsuo, is weak in body and has been confined to a wheelchair since Mitsuo's birth, but she's incredibly feisty and fairly independent. His grandfather runs a fruit stand by the docks, selling exotic, juicy treats to tired and famished tourists. He also occasionally travels to the outskirts of Angelou ruins, searching for little trinkets to sell at a rather touristy price. Apparently Mitsuo's grandfather used to do some archeological work in his youth, but he hasn't explained in any great detail just WHAT he did. Mitsuo doesn't really care that much, though, since his grandfather often takes him along and lets him help out in the fruit stand. Mitsuo is close to both family members, but his grandfather often embarrasses him because he's rather eccentric at times.
When Mitsuo was eleven he was given the opportunity to become the apprentice/student of the Sage of New Parm because of his intelligence, and he accepted. The "Sages" of these cities were really glorified Elders/Advice Mongers, but they're prime members in Sult University (and universities like it) and they help spread education, wisdom, and the like through cities. They usually train a student on the side, hence, that is why Mitsuo was chosen. It suits him fine. He enjoys learning and his life has been fairly uneventful and for the most part normal. His teacher wants him to head to Sult University to deliver a package to someone in charge there, be it a dean to Leen or Mullen. He's been told not to peek (It's not proper, after all) and he's bound on the next ship to Parm, en route to Sult.
...and so, will a simple errand lead a grand adventure? ^-^
Updates—spoiler warning!
Mitsuo has just been revealed as an Icarian! The entire party is shocked, and no one knows how to explain this. Mitsuo himself went into a deep sleep for three days after it happened. Apparently he had no idea of his true nature. Icarians are always girls, and always twins...so no one has an explanation for Mitsuo. Mitsuo awoke just in time to help the others defend the Tenkali village from the Icarian Temple's army, but unfortunately, near the end of the battle Mitsuo lost control of his power, and his Icarian wings appeared. Outraged, and noticing the vague similarities in appearance between Mitsuo's wings and Feena's, Jiandir believed Mitsuo might have done Feena harm and somehow stolen her wings. Mitsuo was taken into custody and returned to Nendasa to stand trial, and was then sentenced to death, but the party managed to rescue him just in time, with a little help from the Tenkali and a few others. Jiandir has promised not to harm or meddle with Mitsuo ever again, but the long term effects of Mitsuo's newfound power, and the reasons that he possesses it, remain to be seen...
