How to Fight Battles
(and other useful stuff)
This is a brief explanation for players, which tells them all they need to know about the RP system to play, without having to understand all the nitty-gritty details. ^_^
During a Battle
As you fight, there a certain number of actions you have to choose from. They are...
1. Attack an enemy with weapon in hand
2. Cast a Magic spell
3. Use an Item
4. Guard from attacks
5. Protect a friend (either by guarding, or
attacking any enemy that comes close)
6. Run Away!
7. Improvise ..... ^_~'
1. Attack
A weapon attack pits your attack power against an enemy's defense power. To hit, you'll have to catch up to them, which is determined by your Agility. If you have a short range weapon and you're attacking an enemy that's keeping its distance, it'll be harder to catch up and hit them.
2. Magic
Magic spells can hurt enemies, heal people, and a variety of other things. Regardless, your success is based on Intelligence. Regular spells your character learns are all the same strength, but with practice you may be able to get spells with added advantages...
3. Item
Using an item on someone or something may require you to get close to them, it may not. The faster your Agility, the faster you use it. Other stuff may matter too...depending on the item!
4. Guard
Guarding yourself will cut damage received in half until the end of the round, or until something breaks your guard or distracts you.
5. Protect a Friend
If you get close to a friend in need, you can attack the next enemy to come near, or guard yourself to block anything that tries to get through. You also have to be fast enough to reach your friend in time, meaning Agility matters.
6. Run Away!
A true necessity for any gallant hero. ^_~ Once again, Agility will help you get away as quickly as possible. Also, I'm sure your allies would appreciate it if you make sure it's a group effort before you bolt.
6. Improvise....
Just because you want to do something not listed here doesn't mean you can't! This is online role-playing, not a video game, so as far as I'm concerned you can do whatever the heck you want in battle, within reason. :P
Here's an example of improvising: you want to run up behind a mechanical enemy and Sabotage it. So, I'd assume you'd need Agility to get there successfully, and then the damage would be done with Intelligence, or the skill Machinery.
